I'm having a hard time figuring out why this place isn't packed! It should be. Judging by the taste of the food, the price, and the setting it really should be! The sushi's were HUGE, the waitress was kind, so was the manager, and not to mention the service was fast!!

I highly recommend. Good sushi with good customer service, Its a quite, clean, and laid back atmosphere. The master chef and waitress are very friendly. I totally appreciated the pictures on the menu of their specialty rolls. The sushi was fresh and taste great/good presentation.Their were so many options on their specialty menu to choose that look delicious. I plan on going back to try more. On 3/30/15 around 8:15pm we ordered the Lion King, Sunday Morning, California and Spicy Tuna rolls. We only tried this place because Noble closed early... Glad we did. Its location is hiding on WEST 14 mile rd. Just look for the Outback.

The food here is fantastic! If you're not into sushi, try the ramen --typically it's only served on the lunch menu, but every time I've asked, the owner has prepared it for me in the evening as well. The lunch specials are fantastic, the bulgogi is very yummy -- top notch! I'm stunned that there isn't a waiting line out the door. Lovely place, with lovely owners and a nice atmosphere.

Oh my God I had never heard of this place but wow was it amazing. We were seated quickly and the food came out promptly and we were so excited about the menu we couldn't decide what to order. We ended up with four different rolls and each of them were spectacular. Also the owner what was so nice and friendly he came and gave us free Mochi and checked up on us.

My favorite local sushi place. Wide selection, well designed menu and quick and excellent prep. The ambiance is nice and quiet as well. 5/5

Another review bites the dust! I know I reviewed this place but it's vanished?! Weird. I like this place a lot for the unique rolls but one issue I have every time is that the rolls are difficult to pick up without breaking (I'm a self proclaimed sushi queen and above average skills with a set if choppies). Everything is fresh and standardly priced for sushi. Give this place a shot and try it out, it's pretty tasty :)

Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall, I was VERY cautious about going here. What a pleasant surprise! The decor is simple and even a bit tacky, but clean. We ordered enough sushi to feed an army, it arrived plated and looking yummy. We were not disappointed, as it was beyond all expectations. AMAZING FOOD! Service was not as attentive as I prefer, but there was a lone waitress for the entire place. The food was so good, it made up for that. We will be back.

Some friends and I had been planning on going to Noble Fish in Clarkston, but they closed at 7:30, so we yelped some other options and this came up. The reviews are SO ACCURATE. This place is amazing, much better than I would've thought with it being in a a trip mall. I got the seaweed salad, miso soup, the Sunday Morning and BBQ eel. Both rolls were so yummy, the Sunday was perfectly fried. They also offer brown rice, and my friend with a peanut allergy can safely eat here. At the end of our meal the chef came out and gave us some samples. You can really tell that they care about their food and the people eating it. I wish I could give even more stars.

We came here for an early dinner and it seems they were a little short handed. I only saw one waitress and one guy behind the sushi counter (I assume was the owner). I ordered the hwe dupbap and my husband ordered the Dynamite and Tiger Roll. My hwedupbap came out first and I started picking at it slowly thinking that my husband's food would be out shortly. I had to stop and wait because it started to get a little long between my food coming out and my husband. Meanwhile another table who ordered after us got some of their food. We ended up asking the waitress how much longer it would be for my husband's food and she said only a bit longer. About 7 minutes later the food came out and then he was a happy camper again. Then the sushi chef came out with a side of red snapper, which we didn't order. He said it was on the house. I think it was his way of saying sorry for the food delay. The food was great. I always usually get chirashi when I go to sushi places and having some freshness from a salad and gochujang sauce. Heck yeah. My husband also thought his rolls were very tasty and he can be very picky about his sushi. I also saw Lisa C. mention ramen here! I'm crazy about ramen! So much that everywhere I travel if they have ramen I'm trying that place out AND I take the time to make my own 12 hour broth. Soooooo I will have to come back and try it some time. I definitely understand that they were short staffed and a few groups had walked in one after another so it may have overwhelmed the kitchen a bit. And then to receive something on the house beause our food took a little long. That's great hospitality. We didn't complain at all, but just asked a question and you get over the moon hospitality. Having staff that can read tables and offer things like this means that you have fine dining hospitality in a mom and pop restaurant. It's so hard to find places like this one.

We love this place. Yelp reviews lead us to it. Thanks Yelp! We splurged on the tray for 2. It was a great value. The owner is very friendly and incredibly talented. If this place was in Birmingham they could easily charge $22 a roll and have an hour wait. We are so impressed every visit. Low key, laid back elegant sushi Huge Korean menu as well. We can't wait to try it.

Was looking to try somewhere new for take out tonight. I ended up with Sushi Gallery, and will definitely be back. My go-to place is usually Tai Fai. I know everyone loves Noble, and it IS delicious, but there's something about Tai Fai that keeps me coming back. So when I was reading Sushi Gallery yelp reviews, I almost just went to Tai Fai and called it a night. I'm glad I gave this place a shot. It's hiding in the corner of a strip mall at 14 and Campbell. I was surprised how large the restaurant is when I went in. I was immediately greeted by friendly staff, and received my food promptly (was told it'd be ready in 10 minutes when I called). I ordered the Lion King roll and the avocado and asparagus roll. Both were great, but the Lion King roll surpassed my expectations. It has this great smokey flavor to it. I could've eaten a million of them. I highly recommend it. I was eyeing the French Kiss and White Dragon, too. I definitely want to take Boyfriend there and try dining in. But this place has great sushi. Go check it out.

Looking for Sushi Gallery? Look instead for the Outback on 14 Mile and Campbell, otherwise you just might miss the peculiar shopping plaza on the border with Clawson and Madison Heights where the restaurant resides, tucked away into a corner. Generally speaking, holes in the wall like Sushi Gallery are either diamonds in the rough or passable. The shopfront is nearly anonymous behind an open sign, the Yelp sticker, and a few gentle Japanese posters for Asahi beer and a famous 17th-century style print of a geisha. All signs point to a great experience. The interior is a bit more modern than I expected, tables separated by a low wall and a sushi bar in the back corner, with seating there if you want to watch fish sliced and diced. A television was trained to the local news station while we visited. The menu splits into Korean options, like bibimap (in effect, an egg-topped rice bowl) and jap chae, and a select number of Japanese entrees, including udon noodles, sushi, and donburi. There are not pages and pages to meander through, though their sushi menu is displayed on flip cards on the tabletop with corresponding photos, a cute touch and instructive for new diners. My beau and I split a jap chae on our dinner date and a selection of rolls, including the cherry blossom and the mango roll. For the record I could live off mango rolls, and probably did over a summer, so anyone who puts one on their menu immediately wins my affections. They have a selection of sashimi or handrolls, though again, the list is fairly short and split between plain (e.g., tuna, salmon) and combo rolls (e.g., California, dragon, etc.). A good many of these are cooked, great for the people in your party who might reject raw fish. The presentation of sushi wins high marks. The square plate was arranged with neatly cut rolls swizzled in the respective sauces, blossoms of wasabi and ginger in the corners. Rolls are particularly sizeable, though not too unbearable. Nothing is worse than trying to shove a giant half-dollar roll of seaweed and rice into your mouth. The Pink Lady roll was largest of them all, and pleasantly balanced between fish and fillings, all tightly squeezed down. The sweetness of eel sauce (I think) made a tasty counterbalance to the salmon. Staff is enthusiastic and helpful, though I suspect the young lady serving us was new to the restaurant. She had difficulty explaining the contents of a roll without much of a description, smiling and demurring from an answer, so we eventually looked it up on our phone. She managed the other tables well and the sushi chefs here are top notch.

Little piece of heaven. Found this place a month ago. Eat here every week! Yummmmmmmmm!
(5)Morgan G.
Went and got takeout from here a few weeks ago. The sushi was incredible! Very fresh and beautifully presented even in the to-go box! The service was also really awesome, everyone working was super friendly. I would definitely go again! If you're trying sushi for the first time I'd highly recommend this place!
(4)Tori B.
Went here for my birthday on a whim and based off of other Yelp reviews. Best decision! This. sushi. IS. AMAZING! I grew up on the East Coast and love all types of fish and seafood. I consider myself a sushi lover and have been eating raw fish since I was a young girl. I frequent Noble Fish and Tai Fai in the area. I wanted good sushi for a dine-in dinner, and decided to try Sushi Gallery since Noble Fish was closed. I got a couple of their rolls and a sashimi boat - everything was fresh with great flavor, and the rice was cooked to perfection. This restaurant is very unassuming and quiet, hiding in a strip mall. Don't let that fool you - the interior is cozy and clean with great table seats and a sushi bar. My kind of place! My only complaint is the music - for a place with such great food and good service, you would think they would pick a better station, or not play it so loud! But I'm getting knit-picky... If you want good good good sushi this is your place.
(5)Ernie M.
Excellent service and very fresh sushi. Tucked away in a shopping center. Hidden gem!!!!
(5)J. D.
I love this place! their raw sushi doesnt smell or taste "fishy" the chef is always smiling and makes the best rolls in troy!!!
(5)Sara B.
I'm unsure as to why the reviews for this place are so stellar? Everything I had here was fairly average. My party ordered three lunch specials and a couple nigiri sushi to get a feel of the place. We had the California roll, the cucumber roll, the veggie delight, and one more that I can't seem to remember. We also had the shrimp tempura udon and orders of house salad and miso soup. All of the rolls were good, but didn't blow my mind or anything, and the wasabi seemed to be a bit old as I used all of it and it was barely spicy. The house salad dressing left me a bit wanting as it was seriously lacking in ginger. Miso soup was pretty good though. Finally, the udon was probably the best thing we ate. It was decently flavorful, ample, and had all the right ingredients and textures. I don't think I'd go out of my way for this place.

I love Sushi Gallery! I discovered it randomly, on Yelp, and after reading the great reviews decided to give it a try. The sushi is fresh and the rolls are unique. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. Often, they go above and beyond (bringing random rolls/treats to the table when you dine in or, like today, they gave me a free soup with my to-go order simply to replace the masago I ordered a roll without). They've got a more expansive menu too - I've tried the bibimbap which was great as well. Make sure to order extra wasabi if you're getting carryout; they usually give a pretty small amount. Definitely recommend Sushi Gallery!
(4)Minh S.
So this place is 4 stars, but 5 because, damn, that chef is a handsome dude (no homo). Anyways, just ate here not even an hour ago with friends. The place is right next to Powerhouse Gym, which is really convenient since you could get awesome sushi right after getting an awesome pump. We ordered the dragon roll, and a cucumber-wrapped roll that is NOT on the menu. I saw it here on yelp and showed them the picture, and they made it for me! What a cool dude. The dragon roll was really good as well, but I kind of didn't like the typical "crab mix" that a lot of sushi places use to fill their california rolls. But that's personal preference, some people might dig it. They also have Korean food here, which is pretty cool. I like places that don't really try to over-do their menu with a lot of food. Places that offer a smaller menu, but pack a lot of punch in their dishes. Those places know what they are doing. The dragon roll was the bomb, and they don't use avocado on top. I think it's egg, but NOT tamago. It's hard to explain, but if you eat sushi a lot, you'll know the difference. I also really dig places that offer my love for cucumber-wrapped rolls. Mine was delicious, but a little hard to put in my mouth, because it's so big (that's what she said). Anyways, give this place a try. I'm glad I did! Plus it's closer to me than Noble Fish, so I'd go here if I want to sit down and eat, but to Noble if I want to get take-out. The prices here for the bigger rolls can be a little more expensive than usual, but that's no biggie. Plus their hot tea is REALLY hot, so be careful. Thanks for dinner Diana!
(5)Kim L.
Still 5 stars. I continue to get sushi here, but usually carry out since my boyfriend doesn't eat sushi so I'll take it to his house while he gets a different carryout. But - I was out this way recently and decided to take my time and eat in. I sat at the sushi bar by myself and ordered an eel roll & a seaweed salad and some sake. Mr. Lee added in a cucumber salad for me to try (free), it was delicious. I mixed it into my seaweed salad and it was even better. So - still friendly, still delicious, and still making sure the experience is pleasant.

You would have to be a nincompoop to not find this place. It's either in a strip mall or in the middle of some houses........just a guess, in the strip mall. I have no idea why so many people had a hard time finding it. We went here when Edamame was closed one day during their infamous lunch time closing hours. And I'm so glad we did. There was like no one there, you could have heard a pin drop. Sooooooooo.........that's ominous. However, I don't know why it was do dead because it was the freshest, biggest sushi for the best price we've ever had. The rice in the sushi is addicting. Pure tasting, springy, literally, THE perfect rice. And the owner is adorable. I wish they had more drinks though, I love being able to get a beer or sake with my dinner but that's ok. Pre-drink elsewhere, keep the prices low.

Hubby and I went solely based off Yelp reviews, and we did not expect to find this gem, our new favorite! It's tucked away in a strip mall, and the atmosphere is unassuming. We were greeted warmly by the server and chef and sat down at a table of our choosing. I looked around and there weren't too many people, but I hoped that it was because we went later in the night and proceeded to order. Then came the food...awesome, awesome place! Chef was great, even came out to our table to offer us some soju for the Korean new year that just passed. Very thoughtful. The rolls were flavorful. We've tried bibimbap from many places and I must say this is the freshest we've had. Theres much more room in this place than Noble Fish, although each has their appeal. Can't say enough good things about Sushi Gallery. Will definitely be back.
(5)William F.
Nice atmosphere, very clean, quiet. The owner/sushi chef is extremely friendly and takes care with making every roll. The cost is very comparable. Has lots of seating. Highly recommend.
(4)Todd J.
My 10 year old boy is something of a sushi fanatic and he says the Sunday Morning roll is his absolute favorite. I try to avoid the cream cheese-based rolls out of principle but now I know what I've been missing. Noble Sushi was packed with a line at 1pm but this place is 5 minutes away and is deserted. Clear injustice. Enjoyed the generous bento for lunch as well! The udon with shrimp tempura was delicious!
(5)Melissa L.
I will admit. I was skeptical to come here for sushi when I can drive half a mile over to Noble Fish which has always been my sushi destination. Like the other reviewers commented, the sushi restaurant is tucked away in the inner corners of the strip mall. It is hard to notice it unless you are in that area often. After passing by numerous times, I had a sushi craving and decided to give it a go. The reviews on yelp reinforced my decision. I ordered a spider roll to go. I was welcomed warmly at the door. The service was just top notch. It definitely seems (and probably is) just an owner run restaurant with family members working there. I could be wrong, but that is the feel. When I opened my styrofoam box, I saw that the sushi chef had included a special treat. He asked me earlier if I was a fan of spicy food. I said "yes" but assumed it was for my sushi. He included a mini spicy crab salad which was delicious. My spider roll was also really yummy. I ate everything in one sitting and still craved more. I urge you to throw your inhibitions aside (like I did) and try this place! Support small, local business! Come for the service and food.
(5)Matthew K.
Owner is cool as all get out (as previous Yelpers will agree) sushi is very high quality. Pricing could be better, but you do pay for what you get for. We are now 'regulars' great job. Hope more people discover this gem...and beer and Sake!!!!! :)
(5)Phil M.
We were here for dinner about a week ago. It was busy but not crowded. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The sushi selection is broad and unique; there are a number of original specialty rolls to choose from. The chef kindly prepared us two delicious lettuce wraps as an appetizer. We had a few rolls each, all of which were very fresh and expertly made. I'm glad we tried the Sushi Gallery (based on a Yelp search - as others have suggested it isn't a place one might stumble upon) and would gladly return!
(5)Christopher G.
Great sushi! When a mistake was made it was taken care of quickly and as a bonus received samples of other dishes! Hat is true customer service!
(4)Anqi Y.
Good sushi, good prices, extremely friendly man behind the counter who often gives out free stuff.
(4)David A.
This place is legitimate. Very very good. 0% chance we would have tried it without the excellent Yelp reviews. It's in a very discrete location in a run of the mill mini-mall. It barely looked like it was open. It was a quiet Friday night. The sushi chef is very experienced and pays great attention to detail. All 4 rolls that we tried were phenomenal especially for the price. I highly recommend this place and it would compete with top places in Southern California or Manhattan.
(5)Evynne M.
Great Sushi and the people are so nice in here! Fast and speedy also. I highly recommend this place!
(5)Kat S.
Great food, with some extras. It had a perfect enough of spice to my rolls. I will be going back to have more, thnx to the chef
(4)Andrew S.
Great food and a super friendly owner... We will be back ! We had sushi and it was expertly prepared and very tasty. Everything was very fresh. Yum !
(5)Ben S.
The best sushi in Michigan! I am sad to say I moved and have been unable to find a suitable sushi restaurant since. I went here 1-2 times per week for 3 years. Unbeatable prices, with excellent combination of ingredients, and the friendliness management ever. I would recommend the Sunday morning roll for the America-sushi mix and any of the sushami for the purists. The blue fin sashami was excellent!!
(5)Reb F.
I ordered carry out from Sushi Gallery today and had an excellent experience. The staff was very friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. The rolls were large, the ngiri super fresh and the tastiest gyoza I've ever had! Please support this newly opened restaurant, you'll definitely be glad you did. My husband and I will be adding Sushi Gallery to our favorites list and eating there often!!
(5)Suzan C.
We had high hopes for this place, based on other reviews... but it felt like we wasted our money on a very mediocre meal. The Jap Chae was overwhelmingly peppery. We asked for it vegetarian, which they did, but there was only a small amount of vegetables in it, and, weirdly, it came on a plate with a large serving of white rice. At $15 for half a plate of mostly noodles, it felt way overpriced. Tea came lukewarm in cups with one cheap teabag for both cups.. tasteless, and at $2 per cup, outrageous. At a Japanese or Korean restaurant, one expects either well brewed green tea or barley tea... apparently they had neither. They also did not have banchan, although to give them credit, when we asked they provided a generous portion of kim chee, all they had. The sushi was ok, actually the yellowtail roll was the high point, with fresh fish and some green onion. The futomaki, a traditional mixed roll, would have been nice except it came with some rather gloppy and tasteless brown sauce all over it. Insult to injury, they added a "service charge" to the credit card bill, after showing us a total bill, it appeared suddenly on the charge slip. After, we realized that there was a sign, in tiny print, on the wall by the table, saying they would do this. I believe the credit card companies forbid this, and it was definitely inappropriate to add it without it being on the menu or clearly stated ahead of time. The waitress was friendly, but the combination of mostly mediocre and frustrating food, and ridiculous charges (watery cheap teabag tea, $2/each, illegal credit card "surcharge"), overpriced food, makes this a place we will not go to again.
(2)Caroline K.
This sushi restaurant is absolutely lovely. The customer service is fabulous and the owners are genuine. The sushi is good and the fish is fresh. Sushi should not have to be chewed endlessly and the chef makes sure he has good fish which reflects in the taste. Aside from Noble Fish, this is the only other sushi restaurant my fiance and I like. Definitely a place to visit.
(5)Julia C.
This was our first time having sushi here. We ordered takeout. Sushi (spicy tuna, dragon roll and rainbow roll), chicken gyoza and shrimp dumplings were very good. Only gave a tiny amount of Wasabi between the two of us. So if you like Wasabi I would ask for extra if you're getting takeout. Hard to say if it's better than Noble Fish only after one time. Their hours seem to be better than Noble Fish (open later). I plan to try more of their rolls in the future.
(4)Joseph S.
Fantastic place hidden gem. Ordered sushi platter A, added fatty tuna , mmmmm. Freshness outstanding, portions are large, spicy tuna roll is a must. Rice temperature is perfect. Great service!
(5)Kyle G.
I must say that the previous reviews that I have read on this restaurant I don't give this small business any credit. The owner and who I assume to be his wife are very passionate about food and the service you receive. I was staying in Madison Heights for work and this place was just around the corner from where I was saying. The sushi was good, made fresh right in front of me. And the owner was willing to make whatever roll I wanted. Give this place a try.
(4)Jim R.
As common with other reviewers we (my girlfriend and I) would not have known about this place if it wasn't for the fantastic reviews. Like many on here, and even one couple in the restaurant the same time as us, we are very familiar with Noble Fish. This place is nothing like Noble Fish in my opinion; this place is far superior! We were greeted with smiling faces from the sushi chef and waitstaff upon entry and that set the experience off right. Everyone was very friendly. We placed an order for a spicy California roll, a white dragon roll, a few tuna nigiri and a miso soup. The soup was brought out instantly and was hot and tasty - I am no miso connoisseur. Next, I was surprised to see the waitress set down a house salad for our table which we did not order. I figured maybe we got it because we ordered a special roll, but I was not going to complain about receiving the extra. This salad was amazing. Unlike most Japanese restaurants that include the worst parts of the lettuce and maybe a piece of cucumber or few carrot shreds, this was a full salad with a delectable ginger dressing sweeter than most, with a hint of citrus (lemon?). As soon as I finished the salad, the waitress brought out another bonus item: chicken hot wings. The wings were glazed in a red bbq-like sauce with sesame seeds. More on the sweet side than hot, but a treat nonetheless. Tender and delightful. Now the true test... The sushi arrived promptly just after the wing appetizer. The white dragon looked better than in the picture and the spicy California roll was large with a lot of rice and and complete with both a spicy mayo that faired on the sweet side and a red chili type sauce that brought up the heat nicely but not too much. The white dragon roll has tuna and avocado on top of a shrimp tempura and crab salad filled roll. The avocado was ripe and delicious, not like the overripe brownish avocado we often see. I asked the waitress about how the white dragon is prepared because it said baked tuna on top. She said they use a torch after it is placed on top and then they add the avocado and sauces on top of the tuna. This resulted in a 'seared' tuna that was still raw in the middle producing great flavor. This too faired on the sweet side due to the sauce that topped the roll but has trumped all other rolls I have tried from the metro Detroit area, Ann Arbor and Lansing. Lastly, the tuna nigiri looked and tasted incredible. A thick, beautiful cut of tuna atop a ball of rice held together by a thin layer of wasabi made it a complete meal. The tuna was of the right consistency, not gelatinous nor overly chewy, and actually tasted like a fish from the ocean; full of flavor. The bill confirmed the extras were on the house and the price was comparable to the prices you find at Noble Fish. My only complaint is that I did not know about this place sooner! We will definitely go back.
(5)Nha V.
Second time going here and it made me change my mind about the place. Sushi are delicious. Dragon roll is probably my favorite. We also got the cucumber tuna roll that's not on the menu and loved it. Price is about 10-13 for specialty roll. A bit pricey but you do get a lot from it. The sushi chef is really welcoming and friendly. I will come back to eat again since I enjoy the sushi I had.
(4)Chris M.
Would love to be able to give an "Incomplete" or "Zero" stars. I've been here 2 times now (as of today) and both times I stood in the middle of the restaurant for several minutes - No Sushi Chef, No Servers, No Host...nothing. The first time this happened, the lights were very low and I stood there and stood there and stood there....no one, so I left. I figured the first time had to be a fluke, so I tried again. Walked in...lights dim but there is one table of 4, so I'm sure its a go.... Insert Price is Right horn. I stood and waited and waited and waited and left again. How hard is it to be available if you aren't busy? There is a bell on the door and yet nothing. So giving it 1 star may be unfair but how would I know?
(1)Mike L.
Royal Oak is not a Sushi hotspot. Noble fish is well know, but certainly not a place you can sit down and have a quiet meal. This is a small, clean and cute place with a mix os Sushi and Korean food. The sushi here is excellent. Fresh fish, good rice, and some interesting rolls to make the kids happy. The korean food also seems to be good too - my lovely wife ordered some and loved it. Excellent friendly service. Simple, but good. Recommended.
(5)Jake A.
This was quite the surprise. I've never felt so welcomed in a restaurant before. The service here is top notch and the food is delicious as well. We ordered our food, and halfway through the sushi chef came over with a plate of assorted sushi for us to have. Later he said when he was young he was always still hungry when he would go out to restaurants and he wanted to make sure we weren't going hungry. Such a gesture just warmed my heart, which just made a good dining experience even better! It's easy to miss this place, it's tucked all the way back in a strip mall by a grocery store, but you really need to give this place a try. I'm very glad I did.
(5)Joan D.
My husband and I came here b/c Noble was closed. We'd never been here before and where very pleasantly surprised. It doesn't just serve sushi but Korean food as well. I had the spicy tuna roll, california roll and miso soup. All was excellent - as good as Noble if not better b/c the rolls where larger and a little less expensive My husband had a Bento Box and totally loved it. The owner/chef made us a complimentary shrimp appetizer in a lettuce wrap with a sweet sour sauce and crunch topping. It was delicious! We highly recommend this place. You won't be disappointed.
(4)Brittany C.
My standards for spicy cali and spicy tuna are HIGH now thanks to this place. The owner is a wonderful man, my normal server Mark is a sweetheart, and I just love everything about this place. Okay so I'm not a variety sushi eater. If anything I'm highly picky and basically go for anything that doesn't have fish/eel/shrimp/ect. I love spiciness so I always go during lunch and they got a combo spicy cali and tuna for $8.99. I DON'T KNOW ANY OTHER PLACE THAT PUTS CRUNCH ON THE TUNA. That's my basic selling point for this place, in addition to how BIG the rolls are. Sorry for those who praise Noble Fish, I'll take Sushi Gallery anyday.
(5)Peg P.
I Love This Place. I think I've tried just about every sushi place in the Royal Oak/Madison Heights area, and while there are some good ones, let's be honest, some of them are just kind of gross. But even with the good ones, I grow a little tired of the lousy parking, inconvenient hours, crowdedness, and occasional "I'm-way-too-busy-to-deal-with-you" attitude I have encountered at some of these locations. But recently, one night I noticed the new Sushi Gallery with it's blinking "Open" sign, tucked into the corner of the strip mall after a trip to that big, old Value Center Marketplace and decided to give it a shot. The first impression I got after walking through the door was, "Wow! This place is warm, clean, and inviting. I wonder why more people don't know about it?" I found out that they had only been open a few weeks. The staff was incredibly nice and attentive and I get a kick out of the older Asian dudes behind the sushi counter. My tastes are a little strange in that I don't eat fish that swim, but they didn't have a problem with that. They quickly crafted my order of veggie sushi and fresh spring rolls, threw in a complimentary salad and I was on my way. Everything was great. Since then, I've been back, branched out a little and found their shrimp tempura roll, California roll and miso soup equally fresh and delightful. The service has been consistently great and their prices are affordable. I'm writing about Sushi Gallery because the restaurant has been relatively empty every time I've gone there and I really want to see them succeed. There's something really special about this place, the staff, and the food and I hope more people have a chance to experience the little Sushi Gallery that could.

I was in the area from NY, and read the reviews. It did not disappoint! The sushi chef and server were amazing. The restaurant wasn't busy, and they spent the whole night speaking with us! They made us delicious food, and even gave us a free roll. I liked it so much that I came here two nights in a row.

Good people great food reasonable prices. I even got a special sushi treat rolled in lettuce with my order that was delicious. Who cares that Noble Fish closes at 8 on a Friday. I like this place a lot. Korean along with Sushi. Num num.

Best sushi I have ever had. And the chef is willing to give you history on where it all started. Very friendly and if you love sushi, then it is perfect for you

Sushi Gallery was delicious!!! I ordered and picked up my food at 10 pm (closing time) and it was unbelievably fresh and perfect. The owner gave me an extra sushi roll to try a d that too was wonderful. After he made everything he introduced himself to is and thanked us for our business. Not a lot of places I know that do that. My new favorite sushi place I just wish they were open today! (Sunday)

Tried Sushi Gallery today based on several good reviews read here on Yelp. I've had sushi all over metro Detroit ONLY so sadly my standards aren't that high. That said I had a far different experience with the sushi itself than many of the reviews here. First let me say that what I can agree with is that the couple that own the store were both very kind and pleasant. There is no lack of niceness at the Sushi Gallery. When we arrived there was only one only 1 person sitting at the bar chatting away with the chef. It was a good sign. The waitress/wife gave us menus and the first thing I noticed was a lack of paper sheet listing off all the roll accompanied by a pencil for me to make perfectly straight lines in open white boxes. All the rolls they have are not on the menu. Rolls that were in photos on the wall or online where not on the menu. Thus I freaked out and only ordered from the menu, but I would have liked to know the full scope of what I could have had. Meso soup was good, edamame was good, the 4 little surprise deep fried dumplings were good.... now onto the sushi. We ordered 4 rolls; Alaskan roll, salmon teriyaki roll, double shrimp tempura roll, and the Firecracker roll. So I'm totally ok with large rolls despite my tiny mouth hole. However I want the roll to stay together on the trip from the soy sauce bowl to my mouth.2 of the 4 rolls were falling apart and more of the rice seemed to end up on my plate than in my mouth. The Alaskan roll tasted a bit "odd"... can't explain it more than that, and the teriyaki roll was just not my taste. For the 4 rolls, edamame, and meso soup our bill was 44.00. Based on my latest favorite sushi stop in Rochester this rolls are far too expensive for the taste. Bottom line is that you don't know unless you try it. I tried it and won't be back. Fat friendly seating: Yes... tables all around!!!!

This is by far my favorite place to go out for sushi in the area. Even though it isn't very big and is in the back of a strip mall, it is still has more seating than noble fish or Crazy Sushi, with a welcoming modern feel. I have been here at least five times (lost track), and every time the food is excellent with incredibly friendly service. They have also given us a little something extra to try almost every time we've gone in. As far as the sushi, my favorites are always california, spicy tuna, and shrimp tempura. They also have teriyaki rolls which I found quite unique and pretty tasty. I just had their udon, which is perfect on these cold winter days. Overall price I found to be quite reasonable, especially going in for lunch specials.

Excellent food. It's a shame the building is stuck in a barely visible corner of a shopping center. Everything is fresh, the staff are happy and helpful, and the food is delicious and even a little creative. I never see anyone dining in, which seems odd because they have special dine-in only deals on the menu. If you ever thought that the sushi from Noble Fish was a little lacking, you'll love this place.

My boyfriend and I are from Columbus and he came with me while I was on business for a day to the Troy area. I had a sushi craving and our hotel was in the neighborhood so we ran into this place by accident. From the reviews here, they are a husband and wife team and couldn't be nicer. Very welcoming and excellent service. The sushi was outstanding. We had the spicy tuna, spicy salmon and Alaskan rolls. All excellent. I highly recommend this place. It's a small local business and damn good.

I have to agree with the rest of the comments on yelp; the Korean family running this restaurant is top notch. They make this place the most welcoming and friendly environment I can ever remember in a restaurant. I must admit that I am struggling between 4 and 5 stars for this review, because this restaurant is not an extraordinarily fancy or beautiful place to eat. Nor is the food really 5 stars. It's hard to agree, then, that this is a 5 star restaurant. It's even located in a strip mall, which doesn't exactly scream fancy. However, the service is unbeatable, and sitting at the sushi bar is your first step towards enjoying great conversation with great people. Regarding the sushi, I was pleasantly surprised by both the range of the recipes, and the quality of the food; especially considering the cost. I asked for the chef to make whatever he enjoyed making, and he prepared some very good off-menu items. This is fairly typical Americanized Korean-made Sushi, so don't expect a trip into little Tokyo. However, many nigiri and sashimi options are available, both of which I enjoyed. If I'm ever travelling in the Madison Heights area again... There's no question where I'll be. I'll be bringing a six pack of beer into Sushi Gallery to share with the restaurant staff.

A great place to go for quality sushi. While Clawson's Noble Fish (right down the street) offers arguably the best sushi in metro Detroit, Sushi gallery is a great spot to go as well. The owners are very nice and the setting is usually quiet, but compared to Noble Fish you can stretch your legs out. Features many Korean dishes as well. I rounded up, I'd give it a 4.5.

Very friendly staff and all around good atmosphere. We had Korean and sushi the night we tried it. The ginger salad was very tasty and the gyoza are pan fried wonderfulness. The bulgogi was a bit Western for our taste, being described by Yours Truly as "a bit dull and dry". The egg nigiri was excellent, being made in the fashion of a tiny dash of wasabi and very artfully done. The egg was cut artfully and the Chef put on a thin line of eel sauce in a wavery pattern that made the nigiri visually appealing. The rice was not as 'tight' as it could have been and the pieces fell apart when being picked up. We also tried their Sunshine roll, a fruitsplosion of exoticness, which was very good an highly unusual. The Miso soup left much to be desired, as the seaweed taste was overpowering and the tofu was soft. All of the ingredients were fresh and very artfully prepared. While not exactly Gangnam Style, a very good offering and we'll go back again.

I ate here yesterday. I ordered a shrimp tempura roll and they gave me fried shrimp with carrots. I wasn't pleased. Also ordered an avocado roll and it was so small. Needless to say I won't be eating here again.

I wanted to love this place, I really did. I was a little skeptical because Madison Heights and Sushi don't really mix. I have a few small sushi restaurants in the area that I like to frequent, and when I thought about going to one on Tuesday, I decided to try this place instead because I've had a few people tell me about it opening. The restaurant is small and located in a very back corner of a strip mall on 14 Mile right on the East side of Campbell. Upon walking in, I was kind of surprised at how warm it was in the restaurant for being a sushi restaurant. It was very hot outside, and I completely understand that they're probably trying to save money on the air conditioning by keeping it set high since they are a new and smaller restaurant. However, we're talking about a bunch of raw fish that I'm going to eat still raw. I think it needs to be a little cooler in there! I ordered a carry out and was actually overwhelmed by how many special rolls they do have. I saw a triple spicy tuna roll and decided that it was definitely for me. I also decided to try the Pink Lady roll, which had no description on the page. My order came out really quickly and the waitress and sushi chefs were all very friendly. I just really didn't love the sushi. The triple spicy tuna roll was good, but it hard a lot of tobico wasabi on top of it. It was ruining the taste of the rest of the roll, so I scooped off a lot of it which made the roll a whole lot better. However, it wasn't very spicy. For a name with "triple spicy" in it, I would think my mouth would be on fire, which is what I wanted. It was spicy, just not as much of a kick as I wanted. The pink lady roll was just ok. I have had a pink lady roll at other sushi restaurants, and I knew it was salmon, but this one was almost like BBQ salmon on top of a cucumber roll. It was good, just not what I was expecting. Like I said, I want to like this place being that it's small, new, and local. I love sushi, and having this restaurant not too far from home makes me hope that I'll like it again. I was thinking about waiting to review until after I've tried it again, but since it is new I wanted to give it a review to get the name out there. The waitress told me that their Facebook page has their entire menu and a lot of pictures of each roll. I checked it out today and the pictures of some of the rolls look really good. The sushi is decent and worth a try, I'm guessing I just ordered quickly and maybe didn't get something that I would've liked more. I'm just comparing this place to other smaller restaurants in the area where I've had really great sushi, such as Wow. I'm sure this place will get there in time, and I'll be back to give it a second chance.

Out of towner so I had take out. Very good! Would highly recommend the triple spicy tuna.

Best Sushi in Michigan! My hubby and I love Sushi but it is hard to find a good place in the area. We have a favorite place in Romeo but this place is much closer and really good. Super fresh and reasonably priced. It was dead inside (just one other guy) but I think it is just because it opened recently and since it is is a shopping mall easy to miss. Do yourself a favor and go there. Try the "Sunday Morning". So good and big portion.

While the metropolitan Detroit area boasts many fine sushi/pan Asian restaurants, Sushi Gallery is not one of them. Significantly more expensive than Noble Fish, with fewer choices than Wasabi and lacking the ambiance of Shangrila on Cass, Sushi Gallery also miss the mark on quality of food and service. Following the suggestions of Yelp, we went in as patrons on a Saturday evening, expecting a bustling dining room and a memorable earring experience. By the time we received our menus, we were the only ones left in the restaurant not on payroll and our pleasantly aloof waitress didn't provide much reason for optimism, failing to note that our party of three had only been provided with two place settings while also neglecting to bring out the miso that had been requested upon our arrival. The food came out in peculiar sequences and the flavor and presentation was uninspired, with the seawood salad seemingly still defrosting and quality of the sushi just a notch below what one might expect from the prepackaged sushi at Kroger. Although I didn't keep a running tally of the costs as we ordered, my eyes still popped in surprise when the bill arrived. In total, the experience wasn't terrible but at twenty percent more costly than the norm and 25 percent less satisfying than other options, there is no reason for a return visit.

Such an Awesome experience. The cook came out and made whatever we wanted. And it tasted so good.
(5)Michael G.
This is one of my favorite places ever. Great rolls, the Owner/Chef is generous and sometimes give you rolls to try just for the heck of it. Awesome and relaxing atmosphere as well!
(5)Victoria A.
first , I would like to say, Madison Heights and Sushi MIX. Within a five mile radius we have some of the finest Vietnamese pho, Thai, and Sushi. The cosmopolitan folks who are seeking "pretty" should, perhaps, go somewhere else closer to where they view it pretty. This place will create art and serve it to you!

After a mildly entertaining Korean BBQ adventure, I was excited to try Sushi Gallery as they were offering Korean, as well as a new restaurant experience. A bit difficult to find, hidden in the back corner of a strip mall, we walked in late in the afternoon to a completely empty restaurant. The menu was very limited in it's Korean offerings and was a bit pricey to my surprise. We started with the shrimp tempura udon, which only had ONE shrimp in it, plus some gelatin dyed to look like radishes. It was a tasty broth, but seriously, put some more shrimp in it before you call the dish shrimp udon. We were served a complimentary salad with ginger dressing, which was basically a pile of water with iceberg lettuce in it (see my photo). We also tried the spicy tuna crunch and California rolls, which were pretty standard but had a nice sriracha mayo drizzled over for a nice presentation and some flavor. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back, but might stop in if I was in the area and craving sushi.

My fiancé and I are new to the Madison Heights area and are big foodies. Food network app, yelp, magazines, word of mouth, and even Siri guide our taste buds as we explore for quality restaurants. One of our favorite things to eat is sushi! We've tried several local spots, average run of the mill sushi...BUT NOT SUSHI GALLERY. I recommend sitting at the bar and talking to "J". A native of South Korea and trained sushi chief. As Grace pointed out, if you belly up to the bar and allow "J" to be creative rather than make a standard roll you'll be more than satisfied when you leave. He loves to make his customers happy and see them eat. I don't think one thing we ate was on the menu and the food just kept coming and the variety of items and taste were great. Everything is easy on the pocket and his family is great to talk to and get to know. Talk about Korea, sports, his family, childhood and you'll feel like a family member when your done. He remembered us the second time we came in and the experience was just as wonderful. Don't let this fantastic restaurant leave.....GO and pack the place. They have our full support and I signed up today on Yelp because I couldn't go without giving them a great review.

This place is great. Chef and owner spent time explaining sushi. It's not just a Japanese cuisine and he explained why. If you like sushi, go here! You will leave happy!

One of the best sushi places I've been too. The chef and his wife are so sweet and nice. He taught my boyfriend and i the history of sushi. Very informative and funny. If you want traditional sushi at a reasonable place go here!
(5)Mike C.
The Dynamite roll is as good as it gets. Every time I eat here it is fresh and I am treated like a king. The Sushi chef often gives us something extra to try and always has a smile on his face. This place is rarely busy, I don't know why, best sushi in the area....hands down.

As out-of-towners, we attempted to eat at Mon Jin Lau on a Wednesday night during Chinese New Year. Of course they were double booked, so we needed an alternative. Tucked away in the corner of a strip mall is not my normal go-to spot for sushi. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality, presentation and service that our party of 5 received at Sushi Gallery. The owner (sushi chef) and his daughter (waitress) went out of their way to accommodate us, even letting us sample some 'special fish'. the owner spent some time at our table educating us on the size, price and practices of catching sushi grade fish. Overall, excellent experience and I highly recommend!
(5)Michael S.
Dinner at the Sushi Gallery was the best surprise dining experience I've had in a very long time. It's a fairly small restaurant that takes a very personal interest in your dining experience. "J" the sushi chef even came to our table to give us some education on the food we'd ordered. Then he brought us several samples of other items he thought we'd enjoy. All the food was amazing and beautifully presented. Prices are extremely reasonable. Very singly recommend.

This has become my go-to place for sushi. Really great friendly customer service, and the sushi is very fresh. Also, the rolls are huge, and I can easily make a good-sized meal of 1-2 rolls! I also like that the hours are a later than some of the other local places, which makes it easier for me to get there after work. A really great find!
(5)Paul B.
Small place tucked into the corner of a strip mall. We were there on a Friday night and not busy at all. The menu is not extensive, but the sushi was excellent and the service was even better. Definately a place worthy of a return trip.

The nicest family runs this restaurant- what a kind soul the Sushi chef is! Bright red gems of tuna made for perfect Tuna Rolls. The Spring Roll was jammed with fresh veggies and came with a homemade sweet and zippy fruit sauce. The miso soup has beautiful broth and cubes of tofu (not all miso does). The shrimp tempura is the best I've ever had. Often tempura is too heavy with coating, this was just right. Check out this local business and support mom and pop!
(5)Austin S.
The family running this place is absolutely amazing. Not only is the food delicious and the service amazing, but the chef gave my girlfriend and I free sushi to try! We were sitting at the sushi bar, about to leave, when the chef hands us something delicious for free and asks us to try it! We ate it up and he asked what we thought of it. It was amazing! If I lived closer to this place I would definitely be a frequent visitor. It just goes to show that the things that make a great restaurant and good service and good food!

I have to say, as a sushi eater for over a decade (and sashimi freak) I know my stuff, our sushi chef today, was amazing, his rolls were in perfect balance, gracious with the cuts of fish, a sublime amount of veggies to accompany it, the right amount of sauce to balance it, The rolls were tight and firm, without "smushing" the star ingredients , a smooth and dense roll that did not fall apart, he was a star, so good, give this place a try. Noble.... doesn't even have rolls balanced this well with artistry, Yeah, I said it. This is my latest visit, my firsts there, were equally great, the menu can be a bit hard to navigate, but just ask the chefs, to make something stellar for you, and they will do it. Belly up to the bar and make friends with these artists, you will be surprised by the meal they can make for you, off the menu. We get no rice cucumber rolls all the time and they are delicious, not only to the palette, but your waist line. They are willing to go "off the book" and make you something extraordinary. Something that is hard to do at other sushi joints. They get that you may want something, off the cuff, and if you do, you aren't punished by some outrageous charge when you get your bill. The tempura, is the lightest, most delicate "fried" delight you could ever have, They are new kids on the block, and can work some raw fish magic, as well as impress with charred and fried versions of your favorites, Please give our local businesses a chance, these passionate guys and gals deserve it!

When a friend told me that a new Korean restaurant opened in Madison Heights, I moved it to the front of my "next restaurant to visit" queue. I'm always a little suspicious of Korean and Japanese restaurants with Japanese names. Unfortunately, many Americans must not know Korean food as well as they know sushi. Therefore, Koreans tend to open sushi restaurants that also serve a few (often poor) Korean dishes.Yet in my book, Sushi Gallery succeeds where many others have failed because their dolsot bibimbap is actually wonderful! Served in a hot stone bowl, the rice is covered with fresh vegetables and meat and served with gochuchang (red pepper paste). Rumor has it that some restaurants water down their gochuchang with ketchup. However, Sushi Gallery's gochuchang is bold and spicy without the high fructose corn syrup twist (thank goodness) inherent in most ketchup. In addition, many sushi restaurants that serve a very limited Korean menu do not offer kimchi or other panchan (small side dishes), but Sushi Gallery has kimchi! The staff is really nice, and they tolerated my meager attempts to speak Korean and my enthusiastic chatter about Korean pop stars and television dramas during our visit. If you like Korean food and culture, try Sushi Gallery! As long as you don't expect a full blown meal with a bazillion side dishes, I think you'll be happy that this small eatery has opened in Madison Heights.

My husband and I went over there on a Friday night in April and we were one of the only two tables there. My initial thought was, should I be worried about the food quality? My husband ordered sushi while I ordered bi bim bap, my bi bim bap was excellent. Just a very traditional and tasty bi bim bap. For my husband's sushi, I tried a piece and I thought it was fine. It wasn't the best sushi I've had but it's not bad. We will go there again sometime.

This has to be the friendliest Sushi Restaurant that I've ever been to, and the food is amazing as well! Seems like every time I go in to Sushi Gallery, I walk away with more then what I paid for. Tonight he made us some Lettuce Wraps to accompany our Sushi and Green Tea.
